Thankful Tablecloth

I adore this tablecloth idea from Becca of Blue Cricket Design.

She started an ordinary drop cloth and wrote all that they were thankful for this Thanksgiving. This is perfect for older kids & for your little ones too! What a fun family project!

This idea would also be great as a table runner &/or napkins. For Becca's tutorial, click here.

Gourd Gobblers

I found this great kid friendly craft on Martha Stewart!  I want to make a whole family of turkeys with our left over pumpkins & gourds for our dining room table centerpiece.  All the supplies needed are:

•15 fried cornhusks or construction paper
•Red food coloring
•Screw punch
•Brown paper
•Hot-glue gun
•Turkey template
•Winter squash or gourd that narrows at stem

Step 1: Download and print the turkey template. Using template, cut feathers, head, and wattle from cornhusks.
Step 2:  Dye wattle (and tips of feathers if you like) in a small cup of water with 4 or 5 drops of food coloring. Use screw punch and brown paper to create dots for the eyes, and glue them onto the head.

Step 3: When the dye is dry, use hot-glue gun to adhere feathers together in a fan shape, then secure to bottom of gourd.
Step 4: Glue together edges of neck and head, leaving the bottom and back open. Glue wattle to front of neck. Open bottom of neck, and fit over stem of gourd. Glue in place.

Turkey Sandwich

Isn't this the cutest turkey sandwich EVER?  I am making this for my boys but I am going to substitute apples for the feathers instead of peppers.

Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

Every Thanksgiving, we have the tradition of watching Planes, Trains, & Automobiles. For those who haven't seen the movie, it is a hilarious, heart warming journey of two travelers trying to get home for Thanksgiving. After the kids are asleep, my hubby & I curl up on the sofa, & laugh & cry throughout the movie-it is always one of my favorite times of the holiday weekend.

Thanksgiving in Silhouette

If I was hosting Thanksgiving at my house this year (it is still my Mom's tradition), I would create a tablecloth with silhouettes of all my family members gathered around the table (somewhat similar to Martha's creation below except in black and white). Or perhaps I would have cookies or silhouette tags as place cards, black and white silhouette china, and throw some pillows (my pug Coco would look incredible) around for good measure. Maybe next year........
