Coffin Invitations

Last week, one of my design clients hired me to plan her daughters Spooktacular birthday party!  Our birthday girl wants a Halloween themed event.  This week, I have been working on the invitations.  I think that a great invitation gets guests excited for the party & sets the tone for the event!  I hope the guests are excited when they receive her birthday invitation in this glittered coffin....

The boxes started out like this!  I found these unfinished wood coffins at Michaels.  When you open the lid, a creepy & scary laugh greets you ( I think the kids will love it! )  I painted the entire coffin black & added a final coat of glitter.  I made pinwheels for the top of the coffin to add a little dimension.

Inside the box, I placed the invitation scroll nestled within candy corn & a  black glittered spider.

I am considering adding a small banner that reads, "Open if you dare" across the pinwheel.  Do you think it needs it or should I leave it the way it is? Either way, I think the kids will LOVE opening this invitation!

My Thai Kitchen Invites

This morning, I found out we won a My Thai Kitchen Party from House Party.com! I wanted to send out some quick invites but did not want to spend any money. I went through my kitchen junk drawer, found some take out chopsticks & hand wrote the invite which says "Please help us Thai one on"!

pulled out lanterns I had left over from the dollar store

& reused the lantern packaging as my envelope

& all from items just laying around the house! I am attaching a small ribbon for a door hanger & will hang them on all our guests front doors tomorrow! SO easy, SO FUN, and SO much more personal than an Evite!

Amazing DVD Invite Idea

On the Mix Mingle Glow blog, they featured the most fun and creative idea for an invitation! They of course used it for a wedding invite but I love it for any milestone event: graduation, 40th birthday, anniversary party, retirement party, sweet 16, bah mitzvah, the possibilities are endless! I Spy

Remember the "perfect" invitations for Jake's Alex Rider spy party I posted last month? They were $150! This is my inexpensive alternative created with file folders from the Container Store, envelopes from Staples, and my computer! The "recruits" received their assignment & had to decipher the location, time, and date of their mission. Their "training facility" is at Stratum, the world's largest laser tag arena. Our spy kit favors were created from boxes from the Container Store with the Alex Rider logo printed on clear mailing labels. More details to follow...........

My mission (if I choose to accept it)

Our oldest son is fascinated by the Alex Rider series (think teenage spy) & has requested a "secret agent" theme for his birthday party in March. I have found the perfect invitations at finestationery.com for their "spy training mission" & thought it would be great for a James Bond/Casino night or surprise party as well!
