12 Days of Favorite things

I am so excited! This year we are starting a new tradition of a gift exchange with my girlfriends. We are doing 12 days of our favorite things, in honor of the 12 days of Christmas.  Here are my gifts to my sweet friend-I've wrapped 12 of her favorites & she will get to open one a day till Christmas Day!

What gift exchanges are you doing this year?

Number tags

Can anyone guess what I'm making these for?

Girlfriend gifts

Every year I like to get a little something for my bunco girls. Since there's a lot of them, I try to keep the cost per gift to a minimum. Last year, I created these cute & fun gifts.  This year, I created & printed custom stationery for each girl from designhergirls.com

I purchased Avery notecards & envelopes from Staples & got started creating each girl.  For wrapping, I placed them in clear cellophane bags & tied a simple ribbon to close.

They are all packaged up & ready to go! And for less than $2.50 each! What do you think?  I can't wait to give them to the girls at the Christmas bunco tonight!

Tardis & Dalek Chocolate Favors

You know I have a huge Dr. Who fan in my house. Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary special & of course, we need to celebrate! My son & his friends are having a viewing party & I am in charge of desserts.  You've seen my adipose marshmallows, fruit roll up bow ties but I added a new addition this season: Tardis & Dalek chocolates.

I simply bought the ice mold on thinkgeek.com & filled it with melted chocolate. So easy & my kids think I'm a rock star!

Soda Crate Advent Calendar

I adore vintage soda crates & have picked up a few along the way.  Until recently, it never occurred to me that there are 24 spaces in the crate.  So when my BFF asked me to make her an advent calendar for Christmas, I knew exactly what I wanted to do!

I picked up these mini galvanized buckets from Michaels in their DIY wedding favors sections.  I added these bingo numbers with glue dots to the buckets & viola, project was complete!

What type of advent calendars do you have in your home?

Honor & Grace

I am honoring my grandparents today for their service to our country. My grandmother,  Katherine Steer was a WAC in WWII.  She ran away from home, because she didn't want to marry the local farmer her parents picked out for her, and joined the Army.

She was stationed at San Antonio, Texas, where she did office work and posed for an occasional war poster.  Funny thing about this picture: she couldn't drive! :)

My grandfarher, Elmer James McDermott, Jr., was a lieutenant in the Army Air Corp.  He wanted to be a pilot, but had really bad asthma.  So he was made a weatherman and stationed for a time on an island off the coast of Alaska.  When he returned, he was then stationed in San Antonio.  He fell in love with my grandmother & they were married in the chapel of the Alamo.

To all our Veterans, thank you to you & your families for your service & countless sacrifices.

Dia de Los Muertos

Is anyone celebrating dia de Los Muertos
this weekend?  I love this traditional holiday which honors our deceased  loved ones. I styled & shot this for the Adult Beverage Company in honor of the holiday.  I simply added flavor liqueurs to Adult Limeade to create delicious AL minis!

How do you celebrate?

Adult Trick-or-treating

Wouldn't it be great if there was ADULT trick or treating on Halloween? This is what I would want in my treat bucket!

It's our Halloween tradition to boo our friends & neighbors with fun holiday treats.  I picked up these adorable ghost bags last year & we filled them with yummy sweets.

This year, I used these darling free Boo printables from Printabelle

After we got home from "booing" I asked my 15 year old if he was getting to "old" for this.  He said, "Mom, I love doing all this fun stuff with you".  He made my heart melt-guess I might be doing something right after all.

Jack O' Rita

I am having WAY too much FUN this week creating & styling Halloween cocktails for the Adult Beverage Company!  First up, the Jack O' Rita!

3 oz Adult Limeade
3/4 oz Cointreau
2-3 oz of freshly squeezed clementine or orange juice

Draw your favorite pumpkin face on a round glass with black sharpie.  Garnish rim with candy sprinkles. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice & add all the liquid ingredients.  Shake gently & pour into glass.  Cheers!

What Does The Fox Say Pumpkins

I know a sweet little girl who is currently obsessed with foxes & the "what does the fox say" song.  She also loves all things cute & not scary for Halloween. So I thought I would surprise her with a pumpkin fox!  Well, two foxes because I didn't know if she wanted a boy or girl.  So...I created Farra & Felix Fox-the cutest fox pumpkins ever!

They were so simple to make.  Start with a couple pie pumpkins (I just liked the shape of these best, you can choose whatever type of pumpkin you like). Wash the pumpkins & dry thoroughly.  I painted a base coat & a few more for good coverage.  (Allow plenty of dry time in between coats).

Once the base coats dry, attach your fox felt ears.  I used orange & white felt. I cut 2 sizes of ears with the orange being slightly bigger than the white. I glued the white ear onto the orange & attached the ears to the pumpkin with a small pin. I then painted the face on in a white heart shape.

I glued a small black Pom Pom on for the nose & drew the eyes & mouth on with a black sharpie. And viola, Felix the Fox was born!

For Farra, I added polka dot bows to her ears & a little sparkle blush with glitter & pink paint.  Cause every girl loves a little sparkle!

I loved the way they turned out! Which is your favorite:  Farra or Felix?  And my kids want to know: what does the fox say?

Master Bath Window Treatments

We installed this beautiful custom cornice in my clients master bath yesterday.  Several people have asked me what to do with glass block windows.  I simply treat it as a regular window.  We didn't want to block any of the natural light from the window so I simply designed a cornice to soften & add some pattern to the space.  My client loves the way it looks-what do you think?

Game Table Chic

It is difficult to find great looking game tables for client projects.  That is, until now!  Restoration Hardware has these cool ping pong, skee ball, foosball & pool tables.  Now these would be the perfect addition to a game room! Which one would you like?

Haunted Gingerbread Houses

We had a group of friends over last night for a fall potluck dinner.  I always like to plan a fun seasonal activity for the kids to  do.  I got four kits, one for each family. The kids from each family worked together on their haunted houses. I think they did an amazing job!

(I apologize for the poor quality but I snapped them with my phone rather quickly).  I also gave out prizes for the best haunted house-which is your favorite?

This year, they're hanging out in our front porch.

How are you decorating for Halloween?

Halloweentime Disney style

I'm spending a few days with the family at the happiest place on earth-no one can "do" the holidays like Disney can!
